Mallorca Castillo Son Vida Resort is part of the Starwood Hotels Luxury Collection, and yes, it is nice, but it's not on the beach. Prices are very reasonable for a standard double room in mid-July.

Son Vida is 10k from the coast and whilst it's easy to get into Palma or the coastal area around Portals (10k away), you'll have to drive or take a cab to get anywhere near the sea.

Consider either one of the good hotels opposite the marina in Palma or maybe the Northern end of the islad at Pollenca or Alcudia.

If you like the Starwood Collection, then check out the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort. It sits on the Mediterranean in Mallorca, a 15-minute walk from the beach.

Try the SolMelia website for good hotels opposite the marina.

something away from palma would be more relaxing and indicative of the uniqueness of mallorca.

try the town of soller. there are a few nice places there..

I also like Port Andratx, (much easier to later get to palma) . I have not stayed anywhere there, but the Hotel Lido beach resort looks OK.
mallorca is FULL of smaller, quainter hotels, though if you do a search. You may try rusticae.com or googling rural beach hotels. good luck.

be sure to take a boat trip around part of the island. it is best appreciated from the sea. The cliffs an blue sea are spectacular, especially the west side.

A train trip to soller is also recommended.

Not sure of your budget or how far away you want to be from the city but Hotel Formentor is at least worth a drink on their terrace.

This is one of my favourite finca hotels in Mallorca, located in an orange orchard near Soller:
