Mailing Packages to USA
Has anyone mailed a package back to the States from Ireland recently? I see that most of the posts regarding this topic are several years old. I am thinking of shipping back a box of clothing once I leave Ireland, before heading to southern Italy.
Carrying everything is not an option, so either post office, or possibly FedEx, UPS, DHL. Any suggestions?

We tried to do this a few years ago but we were sending back mostly food items and the box we packed was too heavy to make it worth the cost. But I think that mailing clothes back would be fine. Just don't pack them too big or too heavy.

Several time I've mailed small boxes of dirty clothes back midway thru a trip. Bought the box itself at a post office and paid to mail it. Haven't been to Ireland but can't see why it wouldn't work the same. Maybe depending on how BIG(?) a box we're talking about you could look into alternative methods.

Hi vawsegs, not from Ireland but from Italy. In Italy is was the least expensive to ship via the postoffice. I had to verify with them the maximum size of the box and the weight allowed. I was able to put all clothes in one box. In Italy it cost me about $60.00. I sent it via land and received it about 3 or 4 months later.

It's no different than anywhere else. I often send packages from Ireland to my broth in the U.S. Is there a specific issue or is it cost. Fed Ex will cost a fortune. get the cheapest post rate and send your things this way. Make sure they are packed well and off you go!

Talk with your local (USA) post office. Two main options are available: Air and Surface. Another good one is "M bag". It is only for books and videos. You can ship either way. Search windows will also detail options. Yes, do pack carefully.

Thanks everyone, for all the good information. I will use the post office option. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a box, but it sounds like I can purchase one at the post office that I will be shipping from.

Hi vawegs, if your post office does not have boxes you can buy one from somewhere like Kinko's etc. I have never been in Ireland but believe these type all stores are all over Europe. Best wishes.
