Madrid Hotel - Three Choices

Two, in early 20s, young men will be in Madrid for 3 nights. Torn between theses three hotels; Hotel Plaza Mayor or Hostal Adriana or Room Mate Alicia. All have good reviews, the price is slightly different. Which pace to stay? Which worth the extra $$? What location is better?
Thanks you in advance for your advice

Hotel Plaza Major is a block from the Plaza Major and near Puerta del Sol metro, a good central location. I liked staying there because you could walk to most of the major sights. I don't know where the other hotels are, so can't comment.

Hotel Plaza Mayor also has an apartment up the street that would give them more space. The info is on their website. We didn't see the rooms in the hotel but the location is great, and the staff very nice. (The apartment is nice, too.)

Roomate Alicia is very moderna great locationon- Plaza Santa Ana with agrren apple at your bedside and buffet breakfast included.Just don't get stuck with a room in the back-a shoebox and window looks out on the airshaft! I don't know if it would bother you but the bathroom has no door and so no privacy.
The Plaza Mayor is a few minutes away from Alicia and is in a different class-older and very basic.but very close to the Plaza Mayor.Once again rooms in the back very small and look out on the airshaft.
Hostal Adriana is again a convenient but very busy location but no interesting views. It's decorated in a very eclectic manner! They have another hostal Adria too. Theywere supposed to get an elevator but according to the website it's not showing up!
If you like modern go with Alicia!
