Macedonia travel tips?
We're thinking of visiting Macedonia this summer, probably to Ohrid.
A couple of questions for those who may have been there already.
1. Which airlines fly directly between any major European cities and Ohrid.
I'm trying to bypass Skopje. Ohrid airport website indicates MAT Macedonian
Air Transport flies there, but cannot find anything on their website.
2. How hot/humid does the weather get in the summer? Is Ohrid cooler than
Skopje? Does it get cooler in the evenings?
3. If we are to rent an apartment, I presume most would not have airconditioning?
4. Any other recommendations?

HELLO,
I also planning to go to Macedonia this summer (in August). The summer is rather very hot and without rain. We palnned our trip in May but kids have school in that period. So, my family and I will come to Skopje directly from Zagreb (Croatia), rent a car and next day we would going to Ohrid, staying in Hotel Tino on the lakeshore (with the aircond.)and not expensive but very good. I planning to see the Monastery of St. Naum and go to Albania's town Pogradci 10 km away from it. Than we will cross the border to Greece and visit Meteora monasteries.
We would also visit: St. Jovan Bigorski Monastery near Mavrovo lake, Bitola, canyon of Vardar in Demir Kapija,
Vardar valley with degustation of good macedonian red wine, ancient Stobi and of course, Skopje.
The trip would last 7 days.
I wish you a nice trip.

Thanks Zelka for helpful posts. We've booked flights on JAT airways via Belgrade. Staying overnight in Skopje on arrival, spending a night in Belgrade on the way back. We're also renting a car. A local friend is trying to arrange a cottage or a suite with a kitchenette in a hotel.

hello W9London, If you stay overnight in Skopje try the family hotel Mramor. It is not expensive like others the same class but good. You must also go to mountain Vodno and restaurant Pantelejmon on it, to try original macedonian cuisine. There you can see the whole town of Skopje.
I wish you a pleasant trip.
