Lyon, Arles, etc. advice sought

Jump to last reply

We will arrive in Lyon from Paris on May 23 (yes, we are planning well ahead) and returning to Paris from the Arles area on June 1. We would appreciate any advice as to well-located hotels to consider in Lyon, how to divide the time (effectively 7-8 days) among Lyon, Arles, and the area around Arles, hotels to look at in Arles and in surrounding towns, day trips from Lyon or Arles, etc. We have no strong interests except to experience what is distinctive and typical about these areas of France, and we will travel by train and other public transit. This excursion will complement our month of June in Paris, which we have visited many times. Although not fluent, we get by comfortably in French and do not feel constrained by culture or language.

All advice and/or reference to sources is welcome.
