Luxury hotel in Milan

I am planning a very special birthday celebration for next year- big birthday! Our final night in italy will be in Milan before we leave to go back to the states. Am not familiar with Milan at all and looking for recommendations for truly special hotel in Milan- 5 star , great service, central location. Would love to hear suggestions. Thank you!

My two first choices would be the Four Seasons or the Bulgari, but like most answers on this subject, you need to know which room to request. Some of the rooms at the Bulgari are too small for me.

I've also had wonderful stays at Baglioni Carlton.

I have business friends who really like the Palazzo Parigi.

You want special? This past summer we stayed in the Park Hyatt when we were in Milan for LaScala performances.

We ended up in the rooftop suite at the Park (a complimentary upgrade) which included an outdoor hot tub and rooftop terrace, a separate dining area as well as a kitchenette. The usual expansive Hyatt bathroom facility.

BUT it is a Park Hyatt and not in any way one of the grand hotels in the city and if you like those (and we do) then I wouldn't even consider the Park Hyatt.

Must it be Milan?
There are also luxury hotels at Stresa, along the shore of Lake Maggiore, closer to Milan Malpensa airport.

Neckervd thanks of your post bc you bring up a great point. We were going to do our last night in milan bc we have a mid morning flight but i see that Milan center is not so close to MXP. Anywhere closer than stress that is nice?
