I visited that Grand hotel once. I don't think you will like the neighborhood. Maybe you could come and go by limo?

I suggest the Hotel Ambassade on Herrengracht. Maybe it's not fancy enough for you but I had a pleasant visit.

Loved the Ambassade too but not luxury. Look at the Pulitzer.

I agree- the Pulitzer. Great hotel and a lovely location.

Stayed at the PUlitzer some years ago and still remember it as a very pleasant experience.
Good location too.

Take a look at the Hotel de l'Europe. Get a room with a balcony overlooking the Amstel River.

We liked the Hotel Europe very much - but our stay was about 5 years ago.

Would like to second the recommendations of Pulitzer. And the Ambassade. We think the Ambassade is a "twin" of the Pulitzer. Except for the brkfst. at the Pulitzer

Spaarne, is that kind of snark really necessary? Come on, friend.

The Grand is within spitting distance of, but not in the Red Light district. Hence Spaarne's comment. No need for a Limo, just be aware of where it is and which areas to avoid when going to and from the hotel, if the RLD doesn't appeal.

The Amstel is where the glitterati stay, but it has prices to match.
You could also consider the Conservatorium, the Amtrath, Okura or Krasnapolsky.

We enjoyed the Movenpick a lot. It is a bit out of the way, but very quiet in the evenings. A 10 minute walk back to the train/bus station and you are on your way by local bus or train to other cities.

I stayed at Krasnopolsky once some years ago. Not my favourite part of town.
Prefer Europa or Pulitzer location ( did not stay, just had drinks)

The American Hotel, which is a listed monument and incorporates an Art-Deco cafe frequented by many Dutch residents. It's also located in the main entertainment zone called the Leidseplein so you won't have to walk far to find restaurants, cafes, theatres and cinemas. There's also a casino opposite the hotel.
