Luxury Hotel - Munich - Sofitel or Le Meridien

Does anyone know which hotel is nicer? The Le Meridien or the Sofitel? I am looking for a little feedback before I book.

Thanks!

By Sofitel, do you mean the new Dorint/Sofitel Bayerpost--or another hotel?

Have you checked out the Hotel Bayrischer Hof? It's a lovely old luxury hotel.

I would offer an alternative- the Marriott Renaissance Munich. It is not in the center but is a half block from the subway. The weekend deals are the attraction. We got an executive suite with breakfast for 130 euros last winter and they offer similar deals thru the year.
Breakfast is superb and we ate an early light dinner in the restaurant two nights running since the food was so good. (also there was a little regret for having overeaten for ten days previously in Vienna and Salzburg.)
If this could fit your schedule, it's worth checking.
In the same vein I have always been impressed by the service I have received at the Sofitel properties. If you sign up for their privilege card on the Sofitel website (no charge), you get a free drink in the bar when you arrive and sometimes a room upgrade.

Hi asykes1 - We stayed at Le Meridien in May this year. I joined the Moments club and was upgraded to a very large room (even by US standards) even though this was my first stay ever.

The hotel is only a couple years old, very quiet and the staff was efficient and very pleasant. The concierge took pains to answer my questions in great detail.

The room had a large marble bathroom with separate shower and tub. Lots of toiletries, great towels, etc. Excellent blow dryer. There was a large plasma TV. There was a nice sitting area with a table and two chairs as well as a desk and chair. Bed was extremely comfortable.

Room service was good - once they forgot to bring enough milk for breakfast and comp'ed us one breakfast (12 &euro in apologies.

Haven't stayed at the Dorint but it is right across the street from Le Meridien. The Hauptbanhof is also directly across the street.

Overall, very pleased and I would stay there again. I paid 125 € per night for two people.

I stayed 5 nights at the Meridien this past December and totally enjoyed the hotel. The front desk and concierge staff was excellent.

This December I am booked at the Dorint Sofitel. It looks so nice from the exterior and lobby and I got a great rate booking early.

I've stayed at LeMeridien: excellent service and location IMO and larger rooms (if you book into that category).

But I very strongly suspect the Mandarin Oriental may be the most luxurious hotel in the city now; it is certainly one of the most expensive!

We stayed at the Dorint Sofitel Bayerpost in December and loved it. We had a great room with a living room downstairs and a loft bedroom upstairs. The hotel is very modern and the indoor pool in the spa area is amazing. While the staff seemed very pleasant, I was a little disappointed in the service at the spa. I had booked an appointment for a spa service only to arrive and be told after waiting 15 minutes that my appointment was cancelled. However, I would happily stay there again and would highly recommend it for atmosphere and location.

I also stayed at the Dorint Sofitel Bayerpost across the street from the Meridien.

I also enjoyed it. While it is seemingly housed in a Renaissance building, it is thoroughly modern in design on the inside. It appears that they built completely new behind the old facade.
That said, it is a bit dark IMHO. If you were to stay there for a longer period, I don't know if this might not get to you at some point. I talked to two of the employees about this and they agreed with me that while it is truly stylish, they are a bit tired of it after a couple of days at work.

My room had a shower only bathroom - but a nice rain shower so I did not miss anything. The bed is o.k. Nice sheets, but not as comfortable as other hotel beds I experienced.

The spa and especially the pool in the basement is a piece of art - dark, but somewhat spectacular.
