Staying in family home in Lutry for a week and would like to take in as much local charm as possible. Maybe taking a side trip for the day or overnight. Love walking, cycling, history, gardens, coffee, charm. Specifics on good food and wine appreciated, as well as train ideas! Have read Fodor's suggestions and would like to hear from travelers who have been there.

Hi sandals,
Lucky, lucky you! I've just discovered Lutry and have fallen in love with it. The town has a signposted walk of its medieval buildings that is just wonderful; its tiny wandering streets always invite for a stroll; its small waterfront and benches always look relaxing. It has a nice range of shops and restaurants, and I think it has the only red-wine cave in the area.
And of course it's perfectly located for walks or bike rides through the Lavaux vineyards.
Here are links to my "reviews" (w/photos) of my favorite activities in the area (though I'm usually based in Montreux when I visit this area, you can easily get around by train/bus/ferry):

Hello, Swandav,
What great information, especially with the links. In my searching, somehow I had missed that the region is World Heritage Site! All the specifics are so helpful, and knowing it is all within reach, my traveler's heart is now skipping beats.
Thank you.
