Lunch near Sants station Barcelona
We have a couple of hours to spare on a Sunday lunchtime in July - between arriving by 'plane and moving on to Madrid by train. Does anyone know a nice bar / cafe / restaurant near the station? Seems to be a commercial district ... Thanks

Perhaps lunch in Basque-Catalan restaurant Zarautz. Very close to the station but still local atmosphere. And the Basque and the Catalan kitchens are arguably the finest in Spain: http://www.zarautzbcn.es/

If you don't want a full lunch, you can sample excellent pintxos in the bar: http://www.bcnrestaurantes.com/eng/b...urante=zarautz

That's kind of an industrial area, there are a few hotels around, of course. and a few restaurants.
I don't know how nice, but you can try these two, they are within a block and I haven't eaten there but have read good reviews and at least they look relatively pleasant. It's just lunch, after all. I think Carmen is not open until 1 pm, but check hours, Zarautz is open earlier. They probably have a map on their website or something, they are opposite directions from the station. Zarautz is Basque and is towards Tarragona metro.

There is a hotel on top of the station that has a restaurant. The food is decent and you would not have to lug your luggage or check it at the station to go there. They also have a buffet but I did not try that. The hotel is called Barcelo Sants and to get there you just exit the station, walk to the right and take the elevator up.
Not as good as eating outside the station, but good if you do not come up with another option...

Plenty of places around here. Within 20 meters of Zarautz you have
Cerveceria Casa Mayo:

and Viduca, open until 5pm on Sunday. Sounds excellent:

Modesto, at Calle Cano y Cueto, 5, is a twenty-minute walk (or a few minutes by taxi) from the train station and is open daily from 12:30 pm to 2:00 am.

Sorry, got a little confused. A teleportation device would probably work, but that's a couple of years away.
Racó d'en Bauti is nearby at Carrer de Premià, 14, and is open on Sundays afternoons from 1:00 to 4:30.

The same station has lots of great cafes in it. The quality of food in the station seems to be better than outside, or perhaps it is all in my head.
I tried orange juice in one cafe in the station also; it is very delicious!
