Luggage to Paris CDG or Avignon?
We are flying on AA from US to CDG, then transferring to Orly and flying Air France to Avignon (yes, I know the TGV to Avignon probably would have made more sense). Can we check our luggage through to Avignon, or will we need to go through customs in Paris? And, can you give me any information on how we get from CDG to Orly? I understand there is a shuttle, but AA couln't provide much info on where to pick it up. (Sorry, I first posted this on general Europe by accident)

Air France runs frequent shuttles from CDG to Orly; they run just outside the terminal, and the cost is about $18. You might be able to check your luggage through to Avignon, but the best thing to do is call AA and find out whether they have a transfer agreement with AF.
When you get to Orly, look for signs to the Navette, the name used for the air shuttle. If you get there well before your flight time, AF will often put you on the next flight departing if there's space.

If AA ticketed the whole trip thru to Avignon, then I would guess your luggage would be transported for you, after you get it briefly at CDG to go thru customs. That has been my experience when flying to CDG thru LGW, although same airline.

Annie, I hate to be a "spoilsport", but taking the TGV from CDG to Avignon is so easy! I just did that in May, and then back to CDG from Avignon. The TGV station in Avignon is wonderful, with a shuttle bus into Avignon Centre, and such an easy rental car arrangement at the TGV station. Too bad you aren't doing it that way - but do next time!
Anyway, this post is for others who might be going to Avignon! (And the train ride was fun - I made friends with a French woman across the aisle, and the time just flew by talking to her).

If you're flying into CDG in September, our paths might cross. Look for a red suitcase being pulled along.
We learned a lot about getting from airport to airport in May of 2003 when we flew into CDG the day of the nation-wide workers'strike and our flight to Nice was cancelled.

Underhill, I'll be pulling my red bag through CDG on 9/25 (unless I'm somehow lucky enough to have it checked through to Avignon). With regard to posting it twice, because I'm going to France, when I look up things on this site, I click on Europe and then on France and only look at those posts. So, it seemed to me, I should do the same when posting a question, others knowledgable about France might only be looking at posts that are narrowed down to France. I don't know if that makes sense, but that was my reasoning behind posting it twice. Anyway, thanks for all your help, I read your messages often, and obviously you have a lot of knowledge about European travel.
