Luggage on the metro/RER

I arrive in Paris at 5:30 am and have to get from CDG to Montparnasse metro, ist it better to have asoft bag for my luggage rather than a small suitcase(even with wheels) Advice appreciated

I would like a bag with wheels. Idon't know what you mean by "soft" bag. And small is good.

We always connect CDG with Paris on the metro, and always bring our luggage. It's no problem arriving, no matter what type of suitcase you have. It's harder on your return from the city to CDG because the trains are much more crowded then.

OK, now I see what your question really is...
My vote is "wheels" - you may need to haul it up some stairs, but there is far more walking than stairs, so being able to roll is much better. Smaller is better, too, use a 21" carryon size rollie, and stack a tote on top if you needed.

I always prefer soft bags, but it depends how heavy it is. In any case, 5:30 a.m. is a good time to take the RER without crowds at your own speed.

Ideally, a suitcase that is both: you will have distances to roll but also a fair amount of stairs - and the turnstiles to get your bag through are pretty narrow.

My BF loved his new luggage on our last trip to Paris: the Victorinox trek pack, which is both wheelie luggage and a backpack, but the internal frame is better shaped than most. Here's the 22" version (he bought the 24&quot:

The day pack zips off, but also can be locked onto the main bag with a luggage lock.

Bon voyage!
