Luggage on Meridiana

We are flying Meridiana from Florence to Palermo. The ticket says that 20 kilos of luggage are allowed. Does this include small hand peices? Any other advice would be appreciated.

I would check Meridiana's web site but when I flew them a couple of years ago, it was 20 kg for checked luggage. Your carry-on was extra. But you will certainly want to verify what Meridiana will allow you to bring as carry-on these days.

FYI, Meridiana was very strict in the weight of our checked bags. My bag was much heavier and I had to pull my suitcase apart to transfer stuff to carry-on. A big lesson learned.

Thanks for the imput. Your ability to move stuff gives me cause for some optimism. I have had difficulty getting Meridiana to respond to email but will try that and the website again.

Hi swidoc. I think I found your answer from meridiana.it FAQ section:

What is the free checked baggage allowance?
On national flights passengers are allowed luggage with total dimensions that do not exceed 160cm ( height + length + width) and with a total weight of 20 kg per adult/child passenger.

What is the cabin carry-on baggage allowance?
Each passenger is allowed one carry-on baggage that should not exceed 55 cm. x 40 cm x 20 cm and weigh more than 8 kg; portable computers and 24-hour suitcases are considered carry-on baggage.

Thanks Pilates. Now the issue is how to get the Mrs. to limit her "stuff". My thanks also to all the forum contributors who made planning for our trip to Tuscanny and Sicily more doable.

No sweat doc.

Just tell your darling wife to pack light because she'll need to be ready to take responsibility to handle all of her own luggage---keeping in mind that you both may have to race to catch a train or flight!

Lots of times these train stations have you going up and down flights of stairs to get from binario to binario. And every train that you board has steps to get on and off. In these cases, heavy luggage is NO FUN!

And if that doesn't work, tell her to pack light because you'd like to buy her some pretty things once you get there. That'd work for me anyways!

Buon Viaggio!

20 kg is 44 lbs - that is more than I ever take on a trip. You shouldn't have any problem making that limit. And 8 kg for cabin bags is pretty generous too.

Between the two - well, I'd hate to schlep more than 60 lbs of stuff
