We have 3 days to stay in one place -we are traveling (family of 5) by train where should we stay??? Kids are 18 and 20..Help

Hi, from what I understand Lucca is good for just a daytrip and Siena is nice, but three days are a bit too much. If you have to choose between Siena and Lucca only, I would choose Siena.

If you had a car, I would definetly say Siena... in fact, I still might say Siean. But the Siena train station is not convenient to the center of town. But you could easily use busses for day trips.

I hope I am not confusing you. Siena has more to offer kids the ages of yours; it is an educational center and there are many young people about.

It has better shops, more museums, better food, a better cathedral, and more. Oh, go to Siena.

Lucca has less to see and the shops are less attractive. However, there are easy train connections. Do you want to see Pisa? If that is a priority, I guess Lucca might be better. But I like Siena. Stayed in both, and continue to visit Siena.

thanks..i think we are leaning towards siena maybe we will rent a car...i know it's a bit more hilly and the girls are young so...

In Siena, there's a bus from across the street from the train station that goes up the hill to the main bus piazza inside the walls. Absolutely not a problem.

Well, if it were me, I'd take Lucca-it's a lovely little town, elegant, cultured, near the sea, not provinciale, with great shops and restaurents-a beautiful Duomo di San Martino (love those Duomos!-but I don't like Siena's zebra striped Duomo)the ancient Basilica di San Frediano with its LOVELY mosaic on the front, there's an ancient Clock Tower, you can bike around the ancient walls of the city, there's some lovely ancient Piazzas (Napoleone, San Martino) Lucca is a very lovely place.

As with Verona, I'm not a fan of Siena-other than seeing the Duomo and the Piazza del Campo, where the Palio is held-what's there to do there? Not much, and like Verona, I think it also has a very provincial air about it-some people like that, I don't.

We're planning to spend some time in Lucca next June. Any recommendations for a place to stay? We like to spend as close to 100 euros as possible.
