Here is a link (in spanish) to more info on the fare reductions/other discounts for the high speed AVE trains, being phased in starting Feb 8th. This is an attempt at boosting ridership on these trains, which has been rather low - often at 50 or 60 % of capacity but sometimes as low as 40%.

It is worthwhile noting that the Tarjeta Dorada will be maintained for those aged 60+, and that new discounts will be also available for those 26 and under, among other things.
For info.
