Low cost flights between Rome and Venice- do they exist
Other than Alitalia full price flights ($186 as of today) does anyone know of any other air transport between Rome and Venice? I have heard horror stories about edreams ...

Easy Jet flies that route. Is there a reason you don't want to train? It would take about the same time when you factor in having to get to and from airports and the required check-in times. The train takes less than 4 hours.

I did the train last year and would recommend it over a flight. Train station is well located for both cities (Something you can say for the plane station in Rome where it's a trek into the city )
Train was fast and more comfortable then a plane and none of those silly luggage rules you have on EasyJet.

It might not just be the time and money.
A private watertaxi from the airport into Venice is probably the most atmospheric entrance to a city anywhere - at least since jumbos stopped flying between the apartment blocks to land in Hong Kong.
But the bus from the airport is dismal compared to the train slowly meandering along the causeway across the mouth of the lagoon. If you're not prepared to fork out for the watertaxi, DEFINITELY get the train

The Alilaguna is cheaper than a water taxi and about as atmospheric.
But I think the train the best choice. When are you taking this trip? If not too soon, you may be able to get discounted train tickets.

Hello, hotpash, all my Italian friends in Italy that need to travel between Venice and Rome and back take the train. The train station in Venice proper is right alongside the Grand Canal and the station on the mainland is in Mestre. The train station in Rome (Termini) is in the city of Rome. So they don't have to take the time and go through the bother of getting to the airport and from the airport on arrival. Enjoy your time in Italy!

Looking for a low cost carrier between Rome and Venice?
Looking for the LOWEST cost carrier between Rome and Venice?
It's Trenitalia, with its lowest "MINI" fare of just 9 Euros in second class, on the hourly Frecciargento trains which take under 4 hours to travel city center to city center!
All "MINI" fares are capacity-controlled (as are low fares on airlines), and have significant restritions on changes and partial refunds. "MINI" fares result in savings ranging between 10% and 88% compared to the regular, undiscounted "base" fare.
What's the SMART way to travel between these cities:
Trenitalia!

Are you looking at Alitalia.com or alitalia.it? They save all the promo rates for the Italians! We saved several hundred dollars on flights using the .it site just yesterday. Have a translation dictionary handy (or a website open). You'll need an Italian phone number (your hotel) and when you key it in, no spaces or hyphens.

Flying between those 2 cities makes no sense. At best the time is the same and you have have to trek to and fro two airports, go through security lines and sit in cattle car (versus comfy train seats).
Why even consider flying?
