Love buying beauty products to take back home? Here are the ones to avoid!

The French well known magazine Que Choisir compared 419 beauty products and you'll find out that toxic substances are not uncommon in hygiene and beauty products, whether it is shower gels, toothpastes, shampoos, deodorants, moisturizing creams, body milks or anti-wrinkle products.

Just want to share it with you so you know what not to buy next time you go to your favourite beauty shops/supermarket in Europe (or even at home I guess). Always good to know to stay healthy

hmmm, most of those products are international brands and many are sold in the US anyway. I think that's a little too much detail for most people as it lists virtually every toiletry product out there and lists substances that are in almost all shampoos and shower gels, for one (eg, sodium laurel sulfate).

but thank you for the information

I remembered that l'Occitane products are appreciated on the forum and I know that L'Oreal brand and many others are widely spread all over the world. It annoys me to see baby products with toxic substances when it is mentioned they are safe. Everyone shoud be aware of that.

Thanks gomiki . I answered a question about Dijon recently but there are not tons of Dijon questions unfortunately !

Sorry but I think you are more at risk from the air you breathe than many of these products, unless of course you plan on drinking them.

You're right, we are at risk with the air, the food also so we don't need that on top of it. If we can avoid it...

As long as we're on this subject, I'd like to make a plea for cruelty-free products--that is, products which not only do not contain ingredients derived from animals, but are not tested on animals, either.

Here is a list--you may be surprised how easy it is to find cruelty-free cosmetics and cleansers, especially online.
http://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/list...y-free-brands/

And they are not necessarily more expensive or obscure--here are cruelty-free brands readily found in American drugstores:

Finally, when in doubt, simply look for the leaping bunny or the CCF bunny:

I don't buy beauty products to take home.. I can get Occitane and L'Oreal products cheaper at home. Figured that out years ago when my favorite L'Orel lipstick was 19 euros( when the euro was especially strong as I recall ) in Paris and about 10 bucks at home .

I buy some nice soaps, and my dad always wants the industrial sized jug of a certain cheap cologne they sell. That's it.

I just love L'Occitane Shea butter hand cream, Royal Bee Jelly bath foam, and the Shea butter body cream.

I would never give them up.

My hands are worth a few dead kitties.

Your hands will become wrinkled and gnarled no matter how many animals you torture or kill in the name of vanity.

I advise the life of the mind, lol.

true.. there really no good reason to allow animal testing on animals for BEAUTY products.. I'll allow that for life saving medicines there must be some animal testing done. but I hope it is done as humanely as possible.

Well, it's not humane at all, but as a species we have decided that other species matter less than ours. Fortunately, rapid advances in the creation of so-called lab meat and lab-organs means that animal testing is bound to decline as it is more expensive and less reliable.

Anyway, that's off topic!

Coco Cherie! How's the moutard in Dijon these a days! I heard there were toxic substances found in it? True?

Cheers!

I second Wo's proposal. Actually, an American hair care company called Bumble & Bumble had a slogan, "Tested only on supermodels."
