Lot-et-Garonne waterways
Who knows something about cruising in the Lot-et-Garonne (Castelmoron) area? We are keen canal / river cruisers and looking at our trip for next year. We like the quieter spots and can't decide between the Camargue and the Lot area. We are finding it difficult to pick up qualitative information on the latter. Can anyone assist? What is it good / bad for and what is the Camargue good / bad for?

The Camargue will be flat and hot. The Lot-et-Garonne will be hillier and somewhat cooler. If you gave the beginning and end of the potential itineraries, others might be able to suggest things to see and do along the way.

We are holding a reservation with Connoisseur for an 11 day one way cruise from Beaucaire to Homps. This takes in the Canal du Rhone a Sete and the Canal Du Midi almost as far as Carcassonne. We are considering changing this to a 10 or 11 day cruise from Castemoron. Connoisseur only have the one centre in the Lot area - which is Castelmoron. Any information / advice would be welcome. Its hard to find views / comments on the Lot in particular.

I'm surprised that Connoisseur does not have brochures touting the beauties of each of their itineraries.
Rives de France does; you might want to look them up. They also offer one way trips which are better than round-trips because at the speed you are going, you do not need to see the same places twice. When we organized our trip, we simply asked for the different brochures from the different companies to see what would fit our bill. You may want to Google "barge companies in France" and see what you come up with, unless you insist on using Connoisseur. BTW, my impression is that all canals will be quiet spots. I chose the Burgundy canal because of its "old stones".

We have all the brochure descriptions but have you ever read pone that says a place is not very nice? Call me a sceptic if you wish. What I really want is real life experiences and they are few and far between for the Lot region. We are on a heft discount for using Connoisseur again and they have given us contact details for the marinas but again I'd really like to hear from someone who's been there and done that!

OK, I'll bite. I assume that you will be going upstream. On this board, there are messages that refer to Villeneuve-s-Lot (do a search for that specific town). Farther upstream, you will get to Cahors and St. Cirq Lapopie. Similar searches will let you know what others think of these towns. According to the map, the Lot is a very winding river, so it should be picturesque.
But I would take the Beaucaire to Omps route because it has more interesting towns (Nîmes--assuming that you find the 20 km transportation--Montpellier, Sète, etc.) plus a variety of scenery--you can presumably enjoy the Mediterranean beaches before you go inland.
I am not aware that many people who participate on this board go barging, so the chances of someone having done the same itinerary are very small.
