Largely undiscovered by foreign tourists the Lot et Garonne known as the fruit basket of France is a wonderful place to visit. Especially if your on a budget! If you like history, wine and fine food then look no further than Pujols and Villeneuve Sur Lot. Situated equi-distant between Bordeaux and Toulouse. We sampled local wines from Bergerac, Bordeaux and Cahors with the staple foods of the region, foie gras, duck and wonderful desserts.
Quiet roads made travelling across the area easy and the medieval towns unique to the area were situated in stunning locations with amazing vistas. We ate our main meals of the day in relais restaurants at lunch time, high quality food in convivial surroundings and full of french people enjoying their lunch for about 14 Euros per head 4 courses including wine and coffee. We booked our accommodation through the gite de france network and stayed in 2 epis rated self catering gites. The prices are unbelivably cheap.
Agen the capital of the Lot et Garonne had a wonderful canal bridge and incredible art museum located in an old medieval merchants house. Highly recommended!

Nicely written assessment, cp
Very nicely written assessment, indeed, cp. However, I have to disagree about Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Agen - both pretty soul-less places IME, and VsL apart from the riverside area is just pretty grubby. Agree it's good for budget travelers - but it's cheap for a reason, I think.
Anyway, to each his own, and I'm glad you had such a good time.
