Looking for thoughts on my 10 days ireland itenirary

Jump to last reply

First trip to Ireland. We'll be flying in 8/8 (Belfast) returning 8/18 (Shannon). Our interests are primarily scenic drives, pastoral setting/villages, beaches. Not interested in museums, city tours etc. Would be nice to see some historic stuff but not a key objective.

Pls let me know if my loose itinerary so far is too ambitious. Looking for advice on which towns to stay enroute.

We arrive at Belfast at 9am. My goal in N. Ireland is to do the Antrim Coast Drive (Carrick A Rede rope bridge, Giant causeway, Dunluce Castle ruins, White rock beach near Portrush) to Londonderry. How far do you think we'll get the first day. Should we stop and stay the night at Cushendall or carry on further maybe up to Bushmills. I am allocating this leg of the trip 2 days.

Overnight Donegal (Considering Ardara or Donegal town for the night). Main objective is to see Slieve league. Maybe Grianan of Aileach (not a must) - 1 day

Overnight Sligo - Ben Bulben, Glencar waterfalls, beaches near sligo (roses point) - 1 day

Overnight Westport - Achill island, Kylemore Abbey [willing to cut this part if I must] - 1 day

Overnight Galway (although I would not pick the city as a base I have been told by Irish friends that this is a must to get a true flavor of the country) - Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, see Burren along the way to the cliffs - 1 day

Overnight (?) I would like to get to Tralee by nightfall...is this too ambitious? My irish friend says its doable ie. do the cliffs in the am and get to Tralee via Killimer ferry by nightfall.

Spend couple days exploring the Dingle penninsula (slea head drive, inch beach etc). Should we stay in Dingle? - 2 days

Killarey and ROK, Ross Castle, Muckross House, Gap of Dunloe - 2 days.

Flying out of Shannon in the morning so may want to drive up the night before. Certainly we'll be spending quite some time in the car but is all of this doable? Your help/comments are greatly appreciated. B&B suggestions welcome as well. Thank you.
