Looking for recommendations in Dodacanese islands
My husband and I are planning 3 weeks in the Greek Dodacanese Islands in September 2007 -- probably Leros-Kalymnos-Lipsi-Patmos. We are flying Denver-Athens-Leros, and want to reserve a hotel there. On the other islands we'll just look for rooms when we arrive. I'd appreciate suggestions for the order we should visit the islands, plus places to stay. We like quiet beaches and little tavernas but can't do a lot of walking. Any comments/ideas are welcome!

Hi cbresa,
I too along with my husband and son will be traveling to the Greek islands in 2007 and have been trying to decide on islands in the Dodecanese. We have been to Patmos before and loved it. It is not as touristy as other islands and has a lovely homely feel. The Monastry of St Johns is worth a visit up in the Hora (centre) which is located a short drive from the main port of Skala. We went to a lovely beach by bus (pebbles though) called Lampi and had a great meal at the taverna, right on the beach. We only stayed a couple of nights so we didn't explore that much. We stayed in Skala and caught the bus to the beach and walked to the Hora. If you don't enjoy walking I suggest taxi or bus.
We were thinking of visiting Leros this time round. It looks quite beautiful and not too busy. We were thinking of staying at Pandeli, the little fishing village as the beach looks child friendly and there seem to be a few tavernas along the water front.
As far as order goes Leros is in the middle of all mentioned so either way you will back track.
Good luck!

Traveling mum -- We changed our itinerary slightly. We're flying into Samos and out of Leros, visiting Patmos and Lipsi on the way. We've picked places to stay everywhere but Leros. Thanks for suggesting Pandeli Beach; I've read a little about it and it sounds great. Do you have any contact info for hotels there?

Hi cbresa,
I looked up a couple of places a while ago. Hotel Marilen in the main port I think and Afroditis Apartments at Pandeli. I don't know much about them however they have their own websites.
Good luck
