Looking for mountainside hotel between Lucerne and Salzburg for great night

Jump to last reply

As our planning has continued for our trip next summer we've narrowed down that we'll be staying in Lucerne for a few days and then driving to Salzburg. We had planned on using train travel only but have found that in Lucerne and Salzburg there are thing we'd want a car for so we're going to rent a van and use it for a day in Lucerne, drive it to Salzburg and use it for a day there before turning it in (I'm still figuring out what the impact of a different country drop-off will be). Instead of pushing to get from Lucerne to Salzburg in one day we've decided that it would be fun to stay for a night somewhere in-between...most likely in western Austria. I'm looking for a memorable, mountainside chalet type hotel that will be fun for our 2 families with kids. We stayed in this type of hotel years ago near Bolzano (see http://www.uhrerhof.com/eng/index.php) that is exactly what we're looking for. Unfortunately it's a bit too far out of the way so I'm trying to find something similar. I don't mind winding roads to get to the hotel...it doesn't have to be on a main road, just accessible by car.

I've only tagged Austria but it could also include Liechtenstein and southern Germany as those are along the possible route.
