Looking for iPhone app that speaks French

I am not familiar with Apple products but this will give you French pronunciations based upon your written input.

Have you tried standard Google translate? Simply put in the english word and have it translated into french, or type in the word you want to hear pronounced and click on the speaker symbol. It will pronounce the word or phrase for you.

For the iphone, try Google Translate. It has both the ability to take input by typing or speaking, and will pronounce the translation the same way as the regular google version will. The speaking version doesn't work well with a cold, but otherwise it works pretty well.

I use "I speak French" you can use it french to english and visa vera, works great.

I think the Google translate requires an active internet connection. I don't know about others. Unless you are connected to internet via Wifi, which severely constrains this type of usage, understand the cost implication of turning on mobile network in France or use a local data capable SIM.

Try the iphone app called Jibbigo .

aparsuader65 - I hadn't realised that Google translate could speak as well; thanks for that hint.That will work well for our study sessions.

Parisecret - Jibbigo app is just what I was looking for. It will be very handy for travelling as well, as it doesn't need internet connection to work.

lonely planet also do a French-English speech to speech offline translator.

The voice recognition isnt that great, but certainly text to speech works really well, and no connection required

I've got iTranslate+ on my iPhone4 and it works pretty well, but thanks for the info on Jiggibo!
