Looking for an apartment to rent. Better than hotel?

Hi y'all!

My friends and I are visiting Iceland in September. We would like to rent an apartment (2 nights in RVK, 1 in Akureyri). Do you recommend any particular website? Maybe is better to go for a hotel room?

Any tips are more than welcome! Thanks in advance

For two nights and one night I'd opt for a hotel. That said, we did stay at Hlemmur Apartments in Reykjavik for our last two nights (after having spent another one night at a hotel at the beginning of our trip). Hlemmur Apartments was really nice (although the bathroom and shower stall were incredibly narrow) and I believe they have a two-bedroom.

IMO, whether an apartment is better than a hotel or not depends on personal preferences. For example, I don't want to cook when I'm on vacation, and I want ready access to breakfast options that include eggs and other hot foods, so I prefer a hotel or B&B. Many people prefer the option of preparing food, or being able to dine on store-bought foods in the comfort of an apartment. To each his/her own!

We stayed in an apartment in Akureyri and had also planned to stay at in one in Reykjavik, but opted for a guesthouse and a hotel there instead (split stay on either side of ring road trip).

We opt for an apartment whenever possible, regardless of where we travel, as we prefer the extra space.

You'll find lots of apartments, guesthouses and hotels for Iceland on Booking.com, but do be aware that the price they quote in USD is subject to change with currency fluctuations, sometimes rather significantly.

Don't expect a lot of hot breakfasts in Iceland (unless you're staying in an upscale hotel).

Being honest, for such short period of time I don't think renting an apartment would be worth it. Rent in Iceland is quite expensive. I would only do that if I went to Iceland and stayed for more than a moth maybe. I'd opt for a Hotel...

We much prefer apartments to hotels, even for one night. Like the space and the kitchen.
In Reykjavik, an apartment called "Alvin's Comfort" through Rent in Reykjavik was wonderful.
Can't recommend where we stayed in Akureryi, but most of the apartments we used were from booking.com and AirBnB.

Good tips above

I would go for a guesthouse, so you would have a more local approach to the country!

You have some useful tips here: http://www.iceland24blog.com/2017/06...n-iceland.html

Hope it helps!

We stayed in a hotel for our stay, and it was sort of a lower end medium hotel, if that makes sense. It wasn't budget, but just a step up from that. When our kids went, they stayed at a similar hotel, and both times we had hot breakfast buffets included in the room rate.

Both our hotel and our kids (separate trips) were booked using booking.com and we both found just what we needed, FWIW.

Nothing special about Iceland, but I prefer a hotel to an apartment when it's such a short stay.

I'm in the apt camp and that is what we stayed in for 4 nights in Reykavik. I used Air Bnb for this particular apt. But HomeAway, booking.com all work just fine. We did pay less for an apt than what was being asked at the hotels.

What does the duration of one's trip have to do with it? I really don't get it.

An apartment is always a better value than a hotel room, considering it's more spacious. Not to mention you can wash and iron clothes for free.
