Looking for advice on Christmas Market trip (Germany)

Hello - we are in early stages of planning a Christmas trip to Germany for 2015. DH has spent considerable time there for work and loved the markets, especially Nuremberg, Rothenburg and Heidelberg. The family has spent a full week in Munich back in 2002 and a full week in Heidelberg in 2003 so we are somewhat familiar with those locations and have done the summery touristy things already.

One idea is to start in Munich (3 nights), go to Nuremberg (1 night), Rothenburg ODT (2 or 3 nights) , drive thru the black forest perhaps using one village as a base (2-3 nights), to Baden Baden (1 night) and end in Heidelberg (3 nights) and fly back from Frankfurt. That give us 14 days on the ground Is that adequate? .

We are fine with driving and moving around a bit. We spent 12 days in Rome last year in a hotel and got quite tired of eating out so finding a flat in Munich, Rothenburg and Heidelberg would be great. Any suggestions?
