Looking for a rental in Umbria with a great view.
Hello -
I'm planning a trip in September that's still vague but it will include Umbria. I'd like to find a place to rent near Spoleto/Assisi that has a terrace, patio or balcony with a great view. My dream is to sit and drink delicious wine with my DH of 30 years while the sun sets over the hills and valleys of Umbria.
We also appreciate having a good kitchen. While it would be nice to be within a mile of a restaurant, that's much less important to me than a great view. We mostly like to try the local markets and cook dinner at home. It's my husband and me. We'll be there about a week. I've looked at a lot of places online and at this point, I'd appreciate your suggestions.
Have you seen or stayed at a place that you can suggest?

Read my trip report from our 2-week September stay in Umbria http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...n-umbria.cfm?6
The rental we used was extraordinary because of the view. The kitchen was great and there was a grill in the back garden. We'd go back in a nanosecond.

uhoh, thank you for replying. The photos are stunning and the price is really good. Did you have a view of the sunset? Were the landlords good to work with? They seem to have the corner on rentals near Spoleto!

They were terrific to work with. I don't really recall that the view was of the sunset or not...but it was so beautiful, and the huge bedroom window looked out with the mountains in the distance and twinkling lights...yeah, it was pretty great. We barely looked at the TV, and we were there two weeks. The free wifi was pretty good, although sometimes it faded in and out. I used an iPad and also had a 3G mini-sim from TIM (an Italian mobile service) which effectively filled in when we were out of wifi or just traveling around. Italian mobile data and phone services are a fraction of what ours cost back in the states.
There is no dishwasher in the apt we rented (there was in the other apt) but there is a sensible cupboard above the sink with slatted shelves where you stack your dishes after you wash them and they easily dried. The refrigeraton was a decent size as was the oven and the stove top. There was also a microwave and multiple coffee systems from a Mr coffee to a Melita filter to a French Press.

In May of last year my wife and I stayed in this apartment.

The apartments have 2 bedrooms and they have covered terraces overlooking the valley and we enjoyed watching the sunset each evening. There is a small village at the base of the hill, but it does not have dining. There are many restaurants within a 5-15 minute drive. Spoleto is 20 minutes to the south.
