Looking for a pharmacy in Graz
As I have explained on another post, my daughter is in slovenia and in need of some medication. She found the antibiotic in Ljubjlana, but the pharmacist told her prednisolone is not sold in Slovenia, and that she should go to Graz to find it. I thought they should call first, but I cannot find the phone number of any pharmacies in Graz. I have been able to find the phone number of a very popular bar in Graz named Pharmacy, but I'm afraid that's not what they need.
Does anyone have the phone number of a pharmacy in Graz or a way to find one? Thanks a lot.

Google apotheke graz. You will get plenty of hits. There are many pharmacies in Graz, your daughter should have no trouble finding one.

That pharmacist is nuts. Graz is 200km from Ljubljana. Klagenfurt would be the next major city in Austria, just 80km away. Every living person in Ljubljana would know that.
BUT: Prednison is a prescription drug. It's not even an antibiotic, by the way. No Austrian pharmacist will give it to her over the counter without an Austrian prescription.
Your daughter should see a DOCTOR in Ljubljana tomorrow. Chances are that the brand name of prednisolone medication differ from what you know from the US. It is a rather common corticosteroid, and I would be amazed if it was not available in Slovenia.

Thank you for the advice. I just learned that they wound up driving to a pharmacy right over the border in Austria and got the prednisolon. My daughter had printed out an email from me detailing the dosage dictated by the doctor and the pharmacist was quite willing to sell it without a prescription. She is planning to see a doctor in Ljubjlana on Monday.

Yes, logos999, I think you've got the answer. While I don't doubt that everyone who told me there was no way to get prescription medication without a prescription in Slovenia or Austria had good reason for that opinion, I have had the opposite experience a number of times, but only in Spain and Portugal. Starting from the fact that I've always found that pharmacists in Europe play a far more active role in their interactions with customers (in terms of recommending things, etc), I assume that these pharmacists made the professional judgment call that based on the totality of the circumstances (my daughter with a very obvious and very large rash, an email with specific instructioins and detailing medication names and doses and precautions), this was the right thing to do. It may also have to do with the fact that she is an obvious foreigner and thus not plugged into the national system at all. Whatever the reason, I'm grateful.

Great that it worked out for your daughter! Reason why I was so sceptical was that Austria has one of the strictest laws in Europe re. prescription drugs vs. OTC drugs. Having that detailed documentation from your doctor might have helped a lot. Anyway, I hope that she gets well soon.
