looking for a family ski resort

I'm planning a family reunion -- family members from 3-75 years old -- and would like to find a winter ski resort in the Austrian or Italian Alps. Can anyone recommend a ski resort that has good ski schools, ski runs with moderate difficulty and a wide range of other activities? I'm also looking to rent a large villa/chalet instead of hotel rooms. Location suggestions would be welcomed!

A nice & family suited village for austria is Lofer.

The mountains arround Lofer receive lot's of snow and there is a nice skiing area suited for childen. But the village offers also other activties for people, how do not want to ski the whole day (wlaking, cross county skiing, ...).

tough combination to get it all covered! Family, kids, Granpa, schools, chalet, other activities....hmmmm!

One that comes to mind is "Seefeld Austria!" Has a lot to do on the slopes, has world class X-Country trails and it is near Garmish and Innsbruck for those that want to explore! I also think that there are very fine options as well for Chalets!!

Jpi -

I think ORTISEI (Val Gardena) in the Italian Dolomites is hard to beat. Lots of options for all the family.

Have a look at this link:

Here are some photos to whet your appetite:

Hope this helps ...

It's not in Austria or Italy, but Arosa in Switzerland is a very pleasant town with a wide variety of activities for non skiers eg horse sleds, hot air baloons, horse racing on the lake, skating and an excellent 5 km long sled run. The skiing is not great for very advanced skiers, but fine for families. There are two ski schools. The Arosa website lists dozens of chalets etc for rent.
