Long Weekend in Northern Italy - Suggestions ?

Jump to last reply

As someone who usually plans trips in detail, I find myself about a month away from a trip to Milan with my family of 5 (including 3 older teen boys) and mother in law without much of a plan ! We will be flying into Milan and staying for a long 4 day weekend - my initial thought was to rent a car (done) and then drive to Venice. My mother in law is pretty mobile but does have trouble with stairs, and after doing some research I'm not sure how suitable staying in Venice would be. So I'm really looking for suggestions at this point - we would like to do some sightseeing (I was last in this part of Italy back in 1970, so it's been a little while). I don't mind driving in Europe or the cold weather or the fact that this is a whirlwind trip, and given the short timeframe I expect just to get a sampling of the area (which is better than none). Another thought was to stay in Verona and perhaps a day in Venice - the older crowd (incl me) would like to see museums and churches, and the younger ones would be happy with Roman sites. But would appreciate any feedback or suggestions !
