Long Weekend in Lovely Amsterdam

Hello Fodorites

Bikerscott and I just spent a lovely long weekend in Amsterdam. We took the overnight ferry rail and sail with Stena Line. We highly recommend this for a fun and relaxing way to get to the Netherlands.

Details here http://www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry-to-.../rail-and-sail

We had a pretty relaxed weekend as we have been there several times. We expected rain but got lots of sun.

You can see our pics here

Happy to answer any questions.

Wow! Beautiful photographs! I've never seen Amsterdam at night, always had to get home before it got dark, but really captured the beauty of Amsterdam well.

Your pictures are fabulous. The weather looked perfect. There are so many places I need to go, this looks like it should be close to the top of my list.

As ever I love your photos. And even more, that you are grubbers par excellence.

Hi Teacher91, thank you for the lovely comments!

We had two great dinners. One was Bussia http://www.bussia.nl this one was our favourite. The other was Envy http://www.envy.nl/nl we would recommend both!

Enjoy your trip, Amsterdam is a great city!

When you write that "you just spent a lovely long weekend in Amsterdam", I wonder about your dates.

We were there and nearby from April 20-29, and only the first day had sun. Otherwise it was drizzly, rainy, windy to the point of gales, with sleet and hail. Some days had dry bits, but King's Day was pretty much a washout, the worst in 25 years.

This doesn't mean we didn't have a lovely time, but it wasn't lovely weather, even for the Dutch!

We arrived on Sat 30 April and it was cloudy, Sunday and Monday 1-2 May were just glorious!

It snowed on 29 April in London in the middle of the afternoon...the weather just happily changed as we entered May! We were very lucky as we had expected a rainy weekend.
