Oh boy, this certainly seems like a subject that goes on and on...
1) We will take the Gatwick Express in to London. I believe the GE tickets qualify for the Days Out two for one offers. Is that correct?
2) In October, I bought my GE tickets online before departing the US. I am wondering if I should do this again, or if only Gatwick Express tickets bought at the National Rail window at LGW will qualify. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear.
3) Next question: on another forum, I read a post saying that one should not put one's GE ticket used to get to Victoria into the slot to exit the station, but should instead find a station agent to open the barrier. Seems odd but I'm looking for back up here.
4) Next: there are two of us, and we already own one Oyster purchased in October. If I buy just one 7 day Travelcard, will that suffice for using the two-for-one offers, or would we need two? I ask because it just might be easier to buy my Gatwick Express tickets online, and not have to concern myself with someone letting me out of the exit barrier at Victoria and then carrying my GE tickets with me all over London in order to use the 2-for-1 offers.
4) Now, if I were to get a 7 day travelcard from National Rail, and assuming 1 card would be good for the twofers, would I need a photo ID? A special National Rail photo ID?
The intricacies can be daunting, but I do so appreciate any help.

And I'm adding another question:
Southern Railway tickets from LGW to Victoria are cheaper. It is possible to get a Southern Railway travelcard for one day, the day we arrive, that covers all of London. We would purchase an anytime return or even a return on a specific train (just have to do a little more research on times). SO:
Would those Southern Rail tickets allow us to use the 2 for 1 deals, even though our LGW > Victoria ticket will be a one day travel card? We would still have the return to LGW ticket.
We would just pick up another Oyster the next day. Peak and off peak don't matter too much as we come and go on Sunday, and aren't much at getting to a stop before 9:30.
If anyone is able to follow my questions, I'm grateful.
Don't have time just now to digest all of your questions: but the ones about only having one rail ticket . . . Each person using the 2for1's needs to have a rail ticket. So one ticket and one Oyster won't work (though some attractions might be less strict about this rule)
I'll have a go.
As janis mentioned, both people will need train tickets to qualify. That could be a round trip in/out of the city of the National Rail Travelcards. In my experience, few places check all that closely but every so often, one will.
Since you need the ticket, you don't want to lose it in an automated machine.
I would think the Southern Railways ticket would also work but it needs to be round trip (and keep both incoming/outgoing).
If you get the 7-day travel card from a National Rail station, you will need a passport photo since you are technically buying a season pass (albeit only for 7 days). It's quite simple.
