London - where to stay/ what to do for 24 hour layover.

I am arriving mid morning and have about 24 hours to spend in London before continuing on to Italy. Would love to see a couple of sites while in town. I arrive Heathrow and depart Gatwick. Would love some suggestions on best place to stay and must sees for this short layover. Trip is early May. Thanks!

Assuming you leave for Gatwick at a reasonable time the following morning (check when you need to be there for check-in), I suggest somewhere along the Piccadilly Line, probably Bloomsbury (somewhere between Russell Square and Kings Cross/St Pancras). You can take the tube straight there from Heathrow, and will have an easy journey (again by Piccadilly line or if necessary/desirable taxi) to St Pancras for the First Capital train to Gatwick in the morning.

As for things to see, what are your interests? What time of year are we talking about? In the time available, there may not be much point rushing round museums, but if the weather's not nice and the daylight hours are short, it won't be much fun suggesting you sit on top of a HOHO us or take a river trip - though those could be options at the right time of year.

If you only have time to explore one of the famous landmarks (like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, or the Tower of London) I would recommend seeing the Tower of London. Violent stories, beautiful jewelry, and lots of history, can't go wrong with that!

Princess Diana fan-check out Kensington Palace
Love to shop-go to Harrods department store
Like the arts-get a London Theatre ticket
And if you happen to be a straight male...then ask someone other than me! lol
