Nope - Windsor is not part of TFL (Transport for London). It is quite a ways outside of London. But the good news is you can catch the train to Windsor from Waterloo station.
My husband and I toured Windsor Castle on 9/19. We took the train out of the Waterloo Station. We purchased a combined Castle Tour/Train Ticket at the train station that morning. The castle tour was well-worth the train ride. The town of Windsor is charming with lots of shops and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our day there.
You can ask at waterloo specifically to 'upgrade' your travelcard to include a (return) train ticket from the edge of zone 6 to windsor, rather than paying for Waterloo the whole way to Windsor.
also at Waterloo (or any station along the line to Windsor) you can buy discounted Windsor Castle tickets alongside your train tickets (strictly only at the train stations, not at the castle itself).
Remember to stipulate if you are a senior or have a student card / are under 17 / are a family comprising of 2 adults and up to 3 children under 17. This family ticket is a good deal as in effect you'll only pay for 2 adults and one child, and up to 2 extra children free.
All these tickets are at a lower price than the equivalent discounts sold at the castle itself.
