london to southampton

there are 8 of us touring london and south of england for 11 days. we need to transfer from the london hilton metropole to southampton to return to usa via queen mary. we need the most expedient and economical way to achieve this. cunard and our travel agency have quoted us steep costs. please --we require some alternatives.

Aircars200.com have five seater Chrysler Voyagers, two of these I'd imagine would come in under 100 each for the journey.

Is there some reason you can't just get a train?

Aircars2000.com not 200!

A train would be around forty pounds a head, so my option looks cheaper.

Forty quid? b*****ks

Standard off-peak, walk up to the ticket machine, buy it on the spot, no faffing about with special fares, single is £23.30.

Doubtless a lot less with a couple of lifetimes invested in finding the best deals.

And the train's a great deal quicker.

The one-way train fare from London to Southampton is £23.30 (or £24.30 in the morning peak). If you're travelling after 1000 Monday-Friday or at a weekend, or if you're under 25 or over 60, you can get a rail card entitling you to a discount. Trains take about an hour an a quarter, and run at least every half hour.

I stand corrected, one doesn't use trains after reading of all these delays, what a ghastly affair.

However, is it really befitting for one who is travelling on the world's largest ferry - whose interior could not be any less imaginative or more vulgar in demonstrating bad taste - to use a train? I think not
