Sandi... please don't type here in ALL CAPS. Many consider it a very real breach of standard "netiquette" - - TANTAMOUNT TO SCREAMING IN EVERY SENTENCE AS IF WE ARE ALL HARD OF HEARING.
The "best" way, in my opinion would be to fly, on www.ryanair.com from London (Stansted) to Dinard, rent a car and allocate the better part of three days and nights - - just for the sites of the Normandy Invasion (i.e., from Mere St Eglise to Arromanches, with some inlabnd excursions for places like Caen, for example). Other wonderful regions of ("lower") Normandy (i.e., the part that is "down river" or closest to the English Channel) - - such as Mont St Michel, Bayeux, Honfleur, Etretat/Fecamp, Rouen and the Camembert region - - could easily provide for a full week.
And that's not even counting "Upper" Normandy (closer to Paris than to the English Channel)! Giverny, Les Andelys, Gisors and much more.
Best wishes,
Rex
Since you have an interest in WWII, you should be sure to consider these while you're in London:
Cabinet War Rooms: www.iwm.org.uk/cabinet/
Imperial War museum: www.iwm.org.uk
Britain At War Experience: www.britainatwar.co.uk
Original London Walks (www.walks.com) also has a London Blitz walk.
