London to Cardiff

We are going to be in London for 10 days in early July. We have 1 free day. We're wondering if a quick one day trip to Cardiff is a good idea or not.
Our mother was born there and my sister and I have wanted to set foot in that hallowed land for long time
We do have a trip planned to take in the whole place but since we're there with one free day we thought we might make a quick dash. Any opinions?

Go to nationalrail.co.uk and figure out how long the round trip is on the fast train. Then you can settle your own opinion.

the train will take just over 2 hours and if you leave Paddington at about 9am, you can have 6 or so hours there and still be back in your hotel in London at a reasonable hour:

it won't be cheap but if you're going to do it, first class is the best bargain.

Thanks Ann I appreciate the advice.

Russ I had gone to that site but in thinking it over the thought of you sitting there in front of your computer with nothing to do but twiddle your thumbs bothered me to such an extent I thought I had better post the question.

Don't buy railway tickets through the Train Line.

Follow the links generated by the National Rail site

The Dr Who exhibition is a short bus ride away from Cardiff Station at Cardiff Bay, there is a train that goes to the bay too, but the bus is a good option. If you are stuck for time, a taxi ride from the station would be less than 10 mins and a few £.

Plenty of places to eat and drink and a generally delightful place to visit.

Good luck-enjoy
