London Times restaurant discounts here, please help us choose a place

Two for the price of one entree plus free wine. Any recommendations on this list? We will be staying in Bloomsbury and spending a fair amount of time on the West End.

I've eaten at three places on that list in the relatively recent past (12 mos):

Pomegranates
Chez Gerard (the St. Pauls location)
Thai Pavilion

The food was very good if not extraordinary at all three. I did think that Pomegranates was a bit on the pricey side but I'd certainly return with a 2 fer offer.

We're big fans of Thai food so the Thai Pavilion is the most memorable of the 3 restaurants.

The Soho Indian ones should be good, nothing exceptional, but not too bad either.

The hotel resturants might be worth a try if you like hotel dining, particularly Mju which might seem reasonable with that offer.

Also, Harvey Nichols seems an excellent deal (as their fifth floor café is rather good) but I suspect that the menu will be rather limited.

Generally, these offers are good for vegetarians as the "offer" menu will always feature a vegetarian dish from the a la carte menu.

I'll just comment on the ones I know about..

The Barnsbury
Nice Gastro Pub in Islington - an area popular with 20/30-something professionals. Reasonably priced.

Soho Spice
A bright modern, fun, casual Indian, serving unusual dishes. Very reasonable, and different from your average Indian. In the heart of Soho, as the name suggests.

Chez Gerard
Part of a small chain on modern French bistro style restaurants. Fine if you fancy escargots followed by steak-frites. Bit formulaic, but reasonable.

Bertorelli
Like Chez Gerard above, but Italian.

Fifth Floor Restaurant and Cafe
Ever seen Absolutedly Fabulous? This is where Patsy and Edina come for lunch. Have lunch in the restaurant for great 'ladies who lunch' people watching. About £40-50 per head. Cafe obviously cheaper.

Pasha
Another Islington restaurant - there are hundreds. Turkish, not bad.

I'd say that generally this list of restaurants are what I'd call middle of the road places, of which there's 1000s on London. Not bad, not great. You can read reliable reviews on hardens.com (free to register). Please note that some of these places are in residential areas, so use streetmap.co.uk to check them out. Basically look for any restaurant that has a W or SW at the start of the postcode. Any postcode with 'EC' at the start is in the City (financial district), so busy at lunchtimes, dead at weekends.

These are my opinions on the ones I know:

Ditto Bar: Nice enough, gets a bit noisy later on - but is in Wandsworth, and I can't imagine you'd want to go there for an eveneing out (it's near where I live)

The Admiralty: Really top-notch but pricey. Great room (it's in somerset house) and good food. However even with a discount It's going to be expensive.

Papageno: Crap tourist trap.

Le Gothique - great but not accesible for tourists (wandsworth again).

Fifth Floor Harvey Nicks. For ladies who lunch. Food for skinny people. Good people watching place though. The sort of place Ivana Trump would eat.
