London: The Tate Modern - Better and Better
at least from the NYTimes Travel Section which says this is not your stagnant museum with Old Masters but an always evolving cutting edge modern art museum - quickly gaining stature amongst Europe's modern art museums:

The Tate Modern is nicely located on the South Bank walk - a very popular walkway with locals and tourists alike -its upper floor has an open-air part where you can take in sweeping views over London and the Thames right below.

According to some accounts, the Tate Modern is the biggest tourist draw in London. http://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-modern
Convenient, too: Walk across the Millenium pedestrian bridge (no longer galloping, sigh) to reach St. Paul's Cathedral, while on the south bank the Globe Theatre is next door and Borough Market is a 10-minute walk to the east. Next bridge west is Blackfriars with the memorable Blackfriars Pub guarding its north end.

We were on the viewing level and you can see right into the nearby apts. There are signs saying to respect the privacy of their neighbors. I would not be thrilled if I had an apt with the said view. Meantime, I may be in the mainority but of all the glorious museums in London, the Tate was the least exctining to me.

IMO it was better before the new wing was added. Getting from level to level/wing to wing is pretty convoluted.
I'm a member -- but it is really my least favorite of the places I have memberships (National Portrait, V&A and the Tates)
Like the upstairs restaurant (the posher one) and the members' room/views. But unless there is a special exhibition - like the amazing Matisse Cut outs 3 years ago or the Rauschenberg last winter - I mostly go there to eat.

The residents of Neo Bankside are too happy with it.>
They'd rather have back the old Power Plant?
According to some accounts, the Tate Modern is the biggest tourist draw in London>
Even more than Madame Too-sods?

Even more than the wax, and even more than the Tower too. The vast hall where the trucks (uh, lorries) used to unload has accomplished the unthinkable by making contemporary art installations wildly popular. That's the stuff that many don't think is art at all.

To be fair to the Tate, it was the first giant art gallery, it predates all the other larger ones and was thought of (at the planning stage) as far too large.
Now it has shown the way to the giant ones around the world and it continues to impress
It never had any "old masters" in it, clue is in the name of the place ;-)
