London sweater shopping
I am hoping to find a handmade cabled Aran type sweater while in London. Does anyone know of specific shops where these would be sold? I know Aran sweaters are typically sold in Ireland but can I find them in London too?

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question but if you are googling, we call them jumpers. I think sweater is an American term.
If you want to try looking online at the larger stores, try Harrods, Selfridges, John Lewis. I know others will have better recommendations.

There used to be an Ireland in London shop NW of Harrod's on Montpelier & they sold a lot of nice Aran sweaters but unfortunately, they've closed.
They might have other locations so when you get there, check the phone book & call. You should be able to find those sweaters without many problems though.

I think you're going to have a problem.
The only places I've seen an Aran sweater in London lately have been in knitting patterns and on Clancy Brothers album covers (old ones at that: not even folk singers wear them any more).
There's no EWM in what visitors would call London (the nearest branches to the centre are in suburbs like Ruislip, or out of town tourist attractions like Windsor or Oxford). The few "Irish" shops (in suburbs where there's a sprinkling of expatriates) just sell things like Irish newspapers and Donnelly's sausages. It's not just the Montpellier St shop that's closed (and there are no other branches): the Irish clothes shop that used to be part of the Conduit St Irish tourism centre has gone too.
The most time-efficient way of finding a sweater, unless someone comes on with 100% certainty they have them in such and such a place, is to buy one online (at www.woolovers.com for example. They do actually have a walk-in shop nearish Gatwick airport, but it's close to inaccessible for most visitors)

Several years ago there was an Irish shop near Bond Street, Mayfair. Sorry I don't remember the street and it has been awhile. The store sold all the typical Irish products including Aran sweaters.
You might try the Cashmere House. They have several locations in London. One is on Regent Street.
I would also suggest trying online.
