London strategy: hotel for 1 night on Picadilly Line
Hello, I took a deep breath and booked flights from US using "MakeMyTrip."
Never heard of it before, but it came up on Kayak search alerts.
Now I'd like a deal for just one night's hotel, near a Picadilly Line station.
So, my best strategy may be Priceline? Or Londontown?
Priceline wouldn't allow me to specify tube line, I know.
What about timing - how far in advance might there be a deal?
(Lest anyone think trip itself is one day, this is a recoup jet lag day before moving on.)
Thank you for any advice.

Laurie, thanks for the info - I have never actually used Londontown but I have seen it referenced here. I have used Priceline, which is why I knew its limitations.
What about timing? Is there a sweet spot or window timewise to purchase a room? Month ahead? Week ahead? Thank you again.

Anything around 130USD/80GBP would be good - naturally I'd like a real deal as it's only one night and perhaps some small hotel has an open room between other bookings, etc. Thanks, Janis.

£80 is very low -- even for priceline. If you were to 'win' a $100-$120 bid, by the time taxes and fees are added on you'll be up around $140/$150.
I'd look at one of the hostels in the Bloomsbury/Russell Square area.
Another option would be to Priceline a hotel at LHR. you can usually win bids well under $100, sometimes under $70.

i have stayed milennium baileyswith an amazing deal through travelzoo (it's right on the line-- gloucester stop and across the street)... so suggest you look for specific hotels that occasionally have deals and watch online, or call them. i think their next-door hotel (less nice) millennium gloucester might easily be in your price range. in russell square we love the celtic... but it's a little over, unless you want bathroom down the hall.

Kawh, thanks for the recommendation. I'm unfamiliar with travelzoo so will take a look at it. I have stayed at the Millennium properties by Gloucester Road Station and I agree they are very good.
Janis, now I wish I had answered your question differently:
There really is no "budget," but I'm looking for strategy to secure a London hotel for one night, preferably at an amazing price.

Another simple option is booking.com - - enter your dates, then zoom in on the map over on the lower left on the page; maybe start at Earls Court, and have a look at the prices and the customer ratings (I'll only book something over 7.0 -- and preferably 7.8 or higher); then shift down the line to the next station(s) toward the center and check out properties near each one.

Earls Court is not fashionable, and lots of places are do-in-a-pinch, but it is the first central hotel area from Heathrow, and a great place to simply drop off luggage, enjoy the rest of the evening, and get a quick start back to Heathrow the next day.

another strategy if you can't find the bargain you are looking for. last summer, on our return, we had a one night stopover in london. we got a room at the 'falcon hotel', which was a 2 minute walk from paddington. it was under 100GBP. run down but clean, looking over a lovely little park.
we were able to get 2for1 heathrow express tickets, which allowed us to stay that much longer on departure. (have always taken the regular tube before.) it worked out really well for us. may do it again with a layover we have this spring, if we can't find a bargain with direct & easy tube.
