I'm a single, twenty something woman traveling with another single twenty something woman to London. Do you think we should feel safe? Any thing we should be extra careful about?

Elizabeth, You should feel quite safe with 2 young women travelling in London. London is like any big city with good and bad people. Use common sense wherever you go, you should be fine. I just came from London a month ago with my daughter and we both feel safe going around the city. Be careful at night time when you go out, and avoid certain areas of the city. Important to check into good hotels, and hotel staffs are usually very helpful in giving advice as to what areas you should avoid. This is the time to travel and have fun while you are young and single. Happy travelling.<BR>

I'm in my 60s and regularly visit London. I have never felt unsafe anywhere and my daughter actually lives in the East End.<BR>Even at night there are lots of people about. There are also lots of CCTV cameras around. You just need to take the kind of precautions you'd take anywhere, don't take short cuts down dark alleys, don't flaunt lots of expensive jewellery etc. etc.<BR>There's no place on earth where people never get attacked or mugged but as big cities go London is pretty safe.

Been traveling to London about twice a year for years--many times with another woman (my sister), but others with my husband and daughter or just husband. NEVER felt unsafe anywhere in London--regardless of the time of day or evening. <BR><BR>For example, I read where many people say to take a cab home from the theatre after an evening show. We've always caught the tube. <BR><BR>Don't interpret this to be like the &quot;pickpocket&quot; posts where people say that because they've never been picked, theives don't exist--I'm sure there is crime in London as in any major city (or small town here in America I'm just saying that I've never been hassled or frightened (I can't say the same about Rome, but I love it anyway). Wear a money belt--as you should any time you leave the country and it would be a hassle to get things replaced--relax and enjoy this wonderful, wonderful city!<BR><BR>Have a great trip!

Do you think honestly we should do the taxi after our theather shows? I'm from a really small town and have never even rode a sub-way. This will be a new experience. However, I'm willing to try new things and soak up the moment.

Elizabeth<BR><BR>I've taken the tube after theatre shows by myself lots of times, it's really not a problem. Remember the whole theatre will be leaving at the same time as you and it's more than likely that a crowd of people will be heading for the same tube station. <BR>The tubes are often VERY busy at that time (10.30-11pm) especially on Friday and Saturday nights when people are leaving pubs or going to clubs.<BR>Just make sure you know where you are going (which lines to connect to, which direction etc). You can look at the tube map at http://www.londontransport.co.uk/tfl/tube_map.shtml <BR>It'll help you feel more confident if you get familiar with the way that the system works. You'll see that all the lines are colour coded and interchange stations are marked with a circle.<BR><BR>

I have never really felt unsafe in London at all. There were some situations in which I might not have felt very comfortable (i.e. walking at night in an area where there aren't many people) but I never felt threatened there (I lived there for 2 years).<BR><BR>I wouldn't worry about taking the Tube after the theatre. In the evenings, the Tube is very busy and I've often even felt a sense of &quot;jollity&quot; (if that's a word) on the Tube at that time since everyone has just been out having fun. Nothing at all to be scared of, except maybe some of the punters who've been out drinking all night and like to chat up young ladies ;-).
