London: RT $298! But...

Sounded great - BA '3 Days Left' sale to London 'from only $159 (each way)

Mmakes $318 total and with $20 Internet booking reduction $298

Great fare?

Then there are $306 Taxes/Fees added on - more than the advertised 'air fare'

equals $604 - still not bad perhaps for Aug-Sep travel?

But it's the bottom line not the advertised prices that counts!

It's false advertisement. I hope one day BA and other airlines who do this will pay some huge fines/penalties.

The taxes and fees for a roundtrip from US to UK is about $160. The other $140 BA charges is part of the fare. They can call it fuel surchage or whatever they want, but it's not taxes/fees.

Why not say free tickets to London, but $450 of fuel, food, and equipment "surcharge"?

BA ALWAYS does this. (I THOUGHT I heard on the news the other day that they were being investigated for it?)Drives me nuts...I've stopped even looking at fares with them because of it...$604 off-season isn't such a great deal.

Sounds like Ryanair - on this side of the Pond BA has quoted their prices including all fees, charges, taxes, etc for at least a year now.

I could almost accept this deception if $306 was the actual tax added to every ticket on every airline to London, but it isn't. It's truly deceptive.

But apart from the credit card fees, the extra charges on FR are optional. You don't have get on first, you don't have check bags, you don't have to drink water. The "mandatory" credit fees is only a few dollars, less or free with certain debit cards.

But the "fuel surcharges" on BA is not optional.

That's a huge difference.

I priced this the other day and was shocked to see the additional $300 in fees they tacked on in the end....it rather disgusted me!

I checked out their "sale", using the dates I'm already booked for. I paid for WT Plus and upgraded to busines for 25,000 miles . It as about $835.00. On their "sale" , upgrading to WTPlus for an extra $198.00, the price came out to MORE than I paid! I think it was about $925.00. And I rather doubt that that fare would have been upgradable to Club with miles.
