London - roast beef, Yorkshire pudding
A friend and I will be in London in September (my 7th trip). I usually go alone so do not eat dinner in a restaurant. This trip we have reservations Sat for Sarastro (for the décor) and reservation for Rules our last night. However, Rules only serves roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for two and my friend will not want to eat it. I am not a foodie but enjoy dressing up and a quintessential English experience. Will Rules provide that? Or is there somewhere with an interesting décor that is for leisurely dining that offers roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
I had hoped to go to Simpson in the Strand; however it is currently being renovated (tho should be open). I gave my friend the choice of the two and she chose Rules.

Rules is perfect for what you want (and better than Simpson's anyway) -- and there are so many good choices on the menu, I would not worry that you can't get your Yorkshire pud.

I don't understand that at all . . . honestly.

Looks like it's on Roast's menu:

As an aside--I had to get over the restaurant alone thing after my husband died...turned out to be quite doable. Try it!

Dinner at a nice restaurant alone just isn't fun. I'm too antsy without someone to talk to. I'm fine at breakfast, lunch, tea or at a cafe or family place. Maybe because I'm not that into food except dessert. Also usually tired by then. I like champagne or an occasional cocktail but travel and alcohol but a great mix for me

I had lunch at Simpson's, Vicky and expect you will get something better IF my one experience was typical:

[search 'Simpson' -- it's on day 8]
When I'm eating dinner alone, I work on my travel notes. Often, the restaurant folks think I'm a critic so I usually get good service. The folks at Simpson's were lovely and it is a beautiful space.
Please let everyone know how it goes!

I travel solo, and a good meal with wine is often my evening entertainment. I take a book, or more accurately these days an ebook or audio book on my phone. The audio book lets me keep an eye on what's around me.
Have never needed a reservation at Sarastro, but I go for the pre-theater menu.
