London plus ??? - Options for an add-on to trip that begins in England?

I'm hoping to receive suggestions from some of you regarding a trip that is in the planning
stage. We're (husband and I) traveling in late Sept. with another couple; our purchased travel package has us flying into London and spending the first three nights there. We then have seven additional nights to plan before we fly out of London to return to the US.

Since we've had several prior trips to England, the debate is whether to remain in that country, or to venture out to another area to visit for the first time. (In a trip last year, we
took the Eurostar to Northern France and enjoyed 3 days in the Normandy area; it worked well in to our itinerary and was easy to arrange the logistics.)

We are open to any sort of possibility - i.e. Paris as a launching point (then using either trains or car rental to explore further), or going to Germany, etc.. Any ideas would be great to consider. Thanks in advance for suggestions!!!
