London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona

With about 8 days (and a delightful 16 yr old daughter in tow)in April, where do we go? Been to London (2 days), don't mind getting a car and touring any of these places, but have to chose! Love arts, culture, antiquities, anything--but can't begin to wade through the info until a decision is made. Everyone says "anywhere is great!" Any help?

OK - I'll make you crazy here - but "anywhere is great!"

W/o knowing what sorts of things you like and why you chose these 4 it is impossible to give you any useful advice. But to be honest a fabulous 8 day itinerary could be beased in any of them and any recs would really be subjective personal preference.

You don't want a car IN any of those cities and for some a train is better than a car even in the countryside.

W/o knowing a thing about what you want here would be my choices:

1) Paris for 8 days w/ 1 or 2 day trips outside

2) 4 days Paris/4 days London

3) 8 days London w/ one day trip or one overnight trip to the countryside

4) 8 days Italy w/ a few in Rome and a few in either Florence or Venice

5) 8 days Barcelona - maybe 5 in Barcelona and 3 out on one of the islands

Oh - just to clarify - I did see the "Love arts, culture, antiquities, anything" bit - but that "anything" just opens up soooo many possibilities.

Hi S,

In this order,

Paris

Paris

Paris

Anywhere else.

If you love arts and culture, as well as antiquities, I would reccomend hitting the museums and choosing your resteraunts wisely to soak up the culture. As to where, that is a hard choice. Think about, when you come home, which place will you most want to talk about, spend your time there. I know, so many places so little time! Best of luck, let us know what you decide!

If I had 8 days and had never been to Paris, I would go. In fact, having been to Paris 7 times, I would go for the 8th. But since you have only been to London for 2 days, you could also split the 8 days between London and Paris. If you have 8 full days in Paris, you should consider day trips to the countryside (Versailles, Giverny, Chartres).

Well, my choices were based primarily on cost of flights out of the midsection of the U.S., and the fact that these are on everyone's must-see list (mine is very very long, but purse is very tiny). So, regarding day trips--do we rent a car? (We do like to drive and stop wherever whenever we like.) Do we take the underchannel train between Paris and London. Thank you very much!
