London (Leicester Square)
Myself and three friends will be visiting London for the first time in late February. We've been told that the Covent Garden and Leicester Square area would be a good place to find a hotel that would enable us to enjoy some late nightlife after a long day of sightseeing. Hotels seem somewhat pricey in that area.
Does anyone have any suggestions for accommodations (hotel or apartment) for a 6 night stay? Also, is the Goodge Street Station too far of a walk late at night for a bunch of 30 year-olds? Do taxis run at all hours of the night and will they take 4 passengers?

Sorry, I don't have specific hotel rec nr Leicester Sq. But yes, you can walk to Goodge St easily, about 20min or so along Charing Cross Rd and north of Tottenham Court Rd. Should be safe enough esp if you're with a group.
Taxis run late at night, though sometimes hard to find one. You can have up to 5 passengers in one taxi (2 in backward facing booster seats).

Buses run up Charing Cross Rd. 24/7 shouldn't be a problem...as a matter of fact bus transportation during late hours has improved quite a bit and most areas of Central London are easily accessible with buses even late at night from Leicester Square and Convent Garden areas...I wouldn't restrict myself to getting an overpriced hotel room if it's outside your budget just to stay there...you'll have little problem getting aruond even at 2 in the morning via taxi or bus and for the most part all areas of Central London are pretty safe.

Like most areas of London, the area you are speaking of has various prices and qualities of hotels. Extend a few short blocks in any direction and you have even more options -- Bloomsbury in particular. How much are you looking to spend? And what kind of accomodations are you looking at for the four of you -- two rooms each with bath? All four in one room? An apartment might be the answer.
For starters, here is a link to a good site about "all things Covent Garden" including hotels there, sometimes with special online deals:

Right around the corner from the Goodge Street Station is Scala House apartments, two bedroom apartments for a fairly reasonable price. Very convenient location.

Hi, We stayed at the Thistle Trafalgar sq. It's about a minute's walk to Leister sq. We found it on Londontown.com. The price was terrific. It was a small room, but had a/c, breakfast, a nice staff, and ofcourse the location was great.

w/o knowing your budget it is REALLY hard to give you any sort of advice about acommodations.
But you can stay practically anywhere w/i the basic limits of the Circle tube line and be w/i a few minutes of Covent Garden/Leicester SQ..

i don't have any particular hotel recommendations as i live here but goodge street/leicester square/covent garden/soho/trafalgar sq/chinatown are all central london and totally walkable. it's a very quick walk...no problem late at night even if you are all drunk (as everyone in these parts will be). forget doing transport...just get a map and walk. 20 minutes maximum and you can cover all these areas -- 10 min if you know exactly where you are going and are light on your feet. use the bt tower as your guide. walk away from it from goodge street and toward it if you are going to goodge street. very easy.

Great ideas so far. Thanks for all the info. We are looking for either 2 hotel rooms (each with a bath) or an apartment. The scala-house seems pretty reasonable so far and we're leaning toward it for 130 pounds a night...if it's available. I will continue checking out the other ideas though.

You can get very good deals at Travelodge if you book early online and pay when booking. There is one just by Covent Garden. The rooms are clean, modern and en suite. Visit
