London is it worth it?

Please don't tackle me....
We fly with miles and have the choice to fly from Lisbon or London back to US.
My daughter is interested in London, I'm not so sure yet.
If we choose it how many day should I allocate to London to do the basics before flying back?

As many as you need to see the things you want to see.

That's the problem, I have never been that interested in the UK so I don't even know what's worth seeing.

Janis is right--let your daughter take the lead.

London is one of the great cities of the world; Lisbon, while interesting, is not. There is enough to see in London for several months worth of touristing, so let your daughter figure out what she wants to see. Chances are you will see something interesting as well.

Four full days for a first trip.

I, too, think London is well worth a visit, and I echo the suggestion for staying at least four or five days (nights). Before you make your decision, you might want to check on the taxes when you fly out of Heathrow on an award ticket. They can be brutal, hundreds of US dollars per person.

It depends, Lisbon is a nice little city and the country is the UK's oldest ally. Probably more like Southampton than London.

I'd give London as much time as you've given Portugal.

We've been in Lisbon before, so we are familiar on Lisbon, Faro.
Yes, I'm a little worried about flying out of London, txt show to be about 30k miles and $180 piece (not sure if they charge taxes over that) and airbnb would be another $200 night.

I don't even understand the question. It implies you are mainly touring elsewhere but then have to get to one of those 2 cities to go back home. Is that right or not?

If so, I'd spend at least 3 days in London, especially since your daughter is interested in it. Saying there are a lot of things to see, the greatest city in the world, etc., is meaningless to someone who isn't interested in it, so I don't think that matters. I haven't been to Lisbon and you don't comment on it so gather no special interest and certainly less to tick off the list, so I'd say at least 2 days there probably as long as you are going.

You could spend all 5 days in the British Museum.

(I actually need to figure this out myself as we will be there for 5 days next month...but I have been there before)

Thanks!
I'm going to get some books for us to see what she would like to visit while there.

Any particular area you would advise where to stay?
We love to walk and just use public transportation.

Not only are there weeks worth of sights in London itself, there are very worthwhile day trips. Don't get fixated on the "Top Ten" lists in the guidebooks - look past those.

If you like walking you might get a copy of Andrew Duncan's "Walking London".

What are your daughter's interests? Any particular reason you have never been interested in the UK?

Since I started flying in/out of LHR, I have been sleeping in the Bloomsbury/Holborn/Covent Garden areas. Good bus as well as tube links.

I think it's pretty simple: your daughter is interested, you've never been, you're in the neighborhood, as it were, ha ha, so why not check it out?

" ...when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." Samuel Johnson

I live here, and it is quite glorious.

Amazing photos Jamie. You can't turn a corner in London without finding an extraordinary view.
