London in August *after* the Olympics - Suggestions?

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are taking a trip to London this year. We're a bit limited in that we only want to go in the summer when our son is out of school, to make it easier for the people he'll be staying with, a combo of friends and parents. Add the Olympics into the mix, and that limits us even more.

We're hoping to book from 8/24/12 thru 9/1 or 9/2/12, and aren't planning on seeing anything out of town (except maybe via Thames boat trip), so won't need a car. The Olympics will be over by then, and I haven't read anything about the city shutting down in August like some European cities. I know most of the major museums and other tourist-y sites are open most days except major holidays.

Does anyone have opinions or experience with London at the end of August? Are we crazy to try it? So far we've only talked to AAA, and that with a rep that had never been to London. I'm currently researching hotels, and want to book hotel and flight soon.

Thanks in advance!
Kat
