London Hotel - Different Request
I’m in need of your recommendation(s) for a hotel in London – City Center. I’d prefer Kensington, Hyde Park, SoHo area – but not committed. Now here’s my complicated part, I’ve been to London before and I’ve stayed in compact rooms. This trip, I’m older and will spend some time sleeping in and hanging out in the room during the evening. So, do you have any recommendations as to a fairly decent size room with a fairly decent size bathroom. I would prefer a hotel/room that it is not dated – I know, I know…but I’ve done the old and character hotels before. I just want an updated room with some modern conveniences.
Thank you for your reading this and offerings.
Peace ~

W/o a budget # we really can't help much. But one problem is that many hotels have various sized rooms so one might have stayed in a decently large one, recommend the hotel, but then you'd end up in a smaller one.
If you use sites like booking.com they often do provide the square footage of the room.
I wouldn't consider Kensington to be 'central' -- it is lovely but sorta far west. Parts of South Kensington are more central.

Copthorne Tara is a big business-oriented hotel with sharp upkeep and competent staff. It is a block from the Kensington High Street Tube station and within walking distance of the Royal Albert Hall and the museums in that vicinity. But a previous poster is correct that the locale is certainly to the west. Expect to pay $150-200 US a night.

Define what you think of as "modern conveniences." All so-called "period hotels" are not in any way, shape, or form UN-modern in terms of their "conveniences."
And I agree that Kensington is not what many would consider to be all that "central."

Be aware that your requests will certainly mean an adjustment ( upwards ) in price. Most hotels offer several types of rooms and you'll need to upgrade to executive or higher level than the basic classic or standard for more space.I agree that the booking.com website is good for determining various room sizes and available options in regard to upgrading your a larger room.

Sloane Square Hotel. Close to Farmacia Santa Maria Novella on Walton Street. You can pop in for some pot-pourri and mint soap.
The Goring. Sister #2 really likes this hotel. Very Whimsy-Posh.
My husband hates the Copthorn Tara and Kensington High Street. He also hates Boots Pharmacy.
Really, darling, with the tube you could stay anywhere near a station.
Hammersmith???

> It's Soho, not SoHo.
Copthorne Tara is not a hotel I would recommend.
If you want to be sure of a fairly good sized room, look to hotels with modern buildings such as the Sanderson (who give room size in the room description. Booking a room above standard category usually means a bigger room size.

Without knowing an actual budget it's hard to recommend anything.
If you want more space and room to hang out, and you've been to London before, I'd go for a Onefinestay property.

I love the Goring, but it is fairly pricey. Go for it if you have the £s to spare.
The Park Lane Hilton might fit your requirements, as well, for location, more "American" sized rooms, (check with them for specifics) and seems recently updated.

I second the idea of looking into an apartment - depending on the length of your stay.
My husband and I will be in London for just three nights in August, and we found a really great 2-bdrm apartment in Marylebone for less than the cost of a mid-range hotel room in the same area.
We like to use FlipKey.com for vacation rentals - the payments are made through them (they area subsidiary of TripAdvisor), but you do have the opportunity to be in touch with the property owner prior to making a commitment, as well as during your stay. Also - they handle any security deposit, and it is refunded in a very timely manner.

London region = Soho.
NYC region = SoHo.
To the OP: your post has no parameters without price points, size description (actual square feet or meters would help because small is in the eye of the beholder - a Hong Kong resident would wonder what you're griping about), and what means "modern conveniences" [Case in point - booked a hotel once that advertised it had "all the modern conveniences" but had no AC in a region that routinely topped 95F]? You'll have flush toilets, electricity and a TV. What do you actually want?

We stayed in a Frasier Suites property in Glasgow, and really liked it. Normally it would be over our price point, but we got a good discount on www.booking.com . They have all sorts of mini- (and not-so-mini-)apartments.
Glaswegians are among the friendliest people we've ever met on our travels, so I don't know if the service was exceptional or universal, but the staff were exceedingly helpful, beyond the call of duty. We also appreciated the snacks available all day in the reception area.
