London - Grosvenor House on Park Lane and Home House, Portman Square
Wow! I just got an upgrade at Grosvenor House on Park Lane in London when I checked in - have no idea why.
Look at the second room of my absolutely enormous suite with a HUGE view of London as far as you can see. I've never seen anything like it.

This is a really nice big spacious hotel. So far so good. Will let you know more as my stay progresses.
They say the steakhouse - I think it's JW Steakhouse - here is awesome. I ate dinner there this evening but just had salad and oysters so I can't give you a beef report. Being from Texas, I seriously doubt they can beat Texas in the steak department.
Caution - there is another Marriott on Grosvenor Square - NOT THE SAME. You want the one on Park Lane backing up to Hyde Park. Everyone seems to get them mixed up.
Here's the super room I had last night at Home House (a tres chic private club) in London on Portman Square. Check out the fabulous wallpaper. http://homehouse.co.uk/bedrooms/inde...tricia-portman
And the bathroon - oooh lala - a huge old-fashioned footed tub and even more fabulous antique wallpaper.
And their dining room is really QUITE the place to be. LOTS of deal-making going on. And the food was really lovely. Not SPECTACULAR - but really quite good.
This club has some of the PRETTIEST rooms I've seen outside of Paris. The ceilings are absolutely out of this world. And there are TONS of private rooms - just the place to have a tete-a-tete in LUXE plus. I found the waiters to be quite attentive and apparently very happy.
Home House has every style of room from SUPER smashing modern Jetson-type bar to brown leather sofa-paved bar to over-the-top tearoom and very PRETTY sitting rooms - for just sitting around and looking good!.
It was a LOT of fun to run around looking in rooms. I'll be those walls have a LOT of stories to tell.
It's only fair to warn that the building is being renovated outside. I awoke to workmen singing from the Wizard of Oz on scaffolding right outside my window. It was really quite cute - especially since I was finished sleeping anyway.
Tomorrow I'm going to Harrods for a little Christmas shopping. And to imagine what it was like when Princess Diana got the whole place to herself for Christmas shopping all those many years ago.
Thinking about her today and how immensely pleased she would be to see her son so happy.
Any other Princess Diana fans here?
Yours

Yes, staying in that room - with that huge salon - was divine. I really enjoyed it too. Invited a friend for dinner there in my room and the hotel brought in a beautiful round table and chairs replete with white tablecloth and all. It felt tres glamourous!
I still haven't made it to Harrods yet, so I'm assuming I haven't missed much,
